Senior Land Development Engineer
An Edmonton client is seeking a Senior Land Development Engineer to join their team.
Senior Land Development Engineer Highlights:
· Engineering Budgets:
· Assess the initial validity of planning efforts.
· Conduct preliminary engineering assessments on an hourly basis.
· Adjust fees based on project complexity.
· Establish design fees as a percentage of construction costs, typically around 9%.
· Construction Budgets:
· Manage projects ranging in size from $1M to $50M.
· Prepare budget estimates at key design milestones to support client financing and assess project viability.
· Timelines:
· Aim to complete design work in the year prior to construction.
· Adjust project timelines based on client investment willingness and market conditions.
· Navigate regulatory and municipal approval processes to maintain the schedule.
· Led significant projects, such as a $50M development site spanning over 2+ years.
· Role of the Successful Candidate:
· Proactively source new projects to sustain and expand team workload.
· Develop and nurture trust relationships with clients to ensure clear communication and met expectations.
· Ensure proposals are project-specific, aligning percentage-based fees with project requirements.
· Grow the team and project backlog to provide a consistent workload for staff.
· Planning Phase:
· Develop design briefs outlining high-level requirements and estimates.
· Deliver design documents centered around design drawings with multiple submissions for approvals.
· Prepare additional required submissions, such as those for Alberta Environment, Alberta Transportation, and municipal erosion and sediment control plans.
· Team Structure and Development:
· Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
· Utilize co-op programs for additional resources, with opportunities for permanent staff positions.
· Qualifications:
· A minimum of 5+ years of experience in land development.
· Proficiency in stormwater management and report writing, including modeling with PCSWWM, XPSTORM, or SWMHYMO.
· Experience in sediment and erosion control design and construction monitoring, including CPESC ACC.
· A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.
· P.Eng or P.L. (Eng.) designation.
· Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
