Junior Accountant
An Edmonton client is searching for a Junior Accountant to join their team.
Junior Accountant Highlights:
Process payroll accurately and on time for 150-200 hourly and salaried employees, including union and non-union workers across six different unions, ensuring adherence to varying project payroll constructions. Manage a bi-weekly payroll schedule.
Maintain compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll regulations and tax requirements relevant to regions such as BC, Alberta (Red Deer, Edmonton), Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and Yukon.
Manage union-based employee benefits programs, adapting to each union's unique benefits package.
Maintain accurate employee records and ensure HR databases are updated with changes in employment status or personal information. Handle Record of Employment and T4 forms in connection with Service Canada.
Assist in onboarding and offboarding procedures, including integrating employees into payroll systems and managing employment contracts and orientation sessions.
Respond promptly to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and other HR-related issues.
Collaborate with finance and accounting departments to reconcile payroll transactions and resolve discrepancies.
Generate reports and analyze payroll data to identify trends and suggest process improvements. Note: The reporting process will be implemented in September, and there is a current transition from Ceridian Power Pay to Ceridian Day Force.
Assist HR with administrative tasks, such as scheduling interviews and organizing training sessions. However, this is not a primary concern, as recruitment support will eventually be provided.
Support the accounting and accounts payable departments with tasks like data entry, generating purchase orders, and entering invoices.
Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience in full-cycle accounting.
Accounting Diploma to pursue a CPA designation.
Experience in construction or project accounting is highly desirable.
Familiarity with payroll systems and transitions; direct involvement in implementing new payroll systems is a plus.
